Shortly after 3 p.m. local time the 12th FAI World Microlight Championship in Jihlava was officially finished. Pilots from four countries became World Champions - Jan Lukes from Czech republic, Alojzy Dernbach from Poland, Rob Grimwood and Andy Aiken from United Kingdom and Pedro Nogueroles and Manuel Giron from Spain. more ...

Following Polish protest against the results of Task 17, which was admitted by the Jury, the scores of this crucial task have changed. As a result Czech crew Silhan - Dalajka fell from first to second position and the World Champion title should go to Spaniards Nogueroles - Giron. The irony is that the Poles didn't gain anything by their protest and remain fourth. As this is the official web or the 12th FAI World Microlight Championship we will refrain from comments on results or teams' tactics. Based on the first unofficial results published this evening the of World Champion titles in categories RAL1, RAL2, RWL1 and RWL2 go to Jan Lukes (CZE), Ondrej Silhan - Martin Dalajka (CZE), Alojzy Dernbach (POL), Rob Grimwood - Andy Aiken (GBR). In teams competition Czechs managed to defend their Team Champion title from two years ago. Note that the time for appeal is still running, the results may yet change. more ...

Thursday's four tasks (two navigation and two deck landings) in which the crews could earn as many as 2500 points were the last four tasks of the 12th FAI World Microlight Championship. In the course of Friday the organizers will finalize the scores and deal with eventual complaints or potests. The pilots will use this time to prepare for their return trip. Most of them are taking advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy free flying.
As we are also in the process of finalizing the scores on this website, please take them as preliminary before the official closing of the Championship. more ...

Czech national television will run a short live entry from the World Microlight Championship 2009 held at Jihlava. The entry will be part of nation-wide prime time show called Dobre rano s Ceskou televizi (Good morning with Czech TV) broadcasted on Thursday, August 20 at 8:15 a.m. on the CT1 channel. more ...

Today the pilots will fly a speed/economy task. The objective is to fly as many given turnpoints as possible with a limited ammount of fuel - 10 kilograms for single-seaters and 14 kilograms for two-seaters. To make the task more challenging, the crews have to fly the initial portion of the points as fast as possible and return to the airfield with two liters of fuel. more ...
